While presenting the Union Budget 2020, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that she proposes the setting up of a task force that will look into raising the marriageable age of women further so that they end up exploring more opportunities of education and career and don’t end up entering motherhood too soon. Women's age of marriage was increased from 15 to 18 in 1978," she stated. She also allocated ₹28,600 crore for programmes specific to women.

She also said that the government will build 100 new airports by 2024 to support the regional connectivity scheme UDAN. The airline fleet of India will grow to 1,200 planes from the present 600 by 2024, she added. The Minister also said that more Tejas-type trains will be started to connect iconic tourist destinations.

Speaking of the health sector, the government has allocated ₹12,300 crore for the Swachh Bharat mission for 2020-21, Sitharaman said. "We have provided an additional ₹69,000 crore for the health sector," she added. She also said that tuberculosis will end in India by 2025.
