EXPLOSIVE DEVICE FOUND AT TICKET COUNTER IN AIRPORT; CONTROLLED EXPLOSION VIDEO RELEASED

An improvised explosive device (IED) was found at the ticket counter in Mangalore airport which had alarmed the airport authorities and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

Reportedly a suspicious bag was found near the ticket counter at around 8.45 am and information was passed to the police control room immediately. By 10 am, the canine squad was called off followed by the bomb disposal squad.

The area was surrounded by the squad and the bomb was taken to an isolated place by officials. Later a controlled explosion was carried out in a large field in Kenjar, nearly a kilometre away from the airport.

The video of the controlled explosion was released on social media platforms. Meanwhile, the CCTV image of the suspect who might have placed the IED was released along with the photo of an autorickshaw.

"We found traces of an IED from a bag lying at the ticket counter at Mangaluru airport. It has been evacuated safely. The IED did not have any triggering material. The bag has been taken out of the airport for investigation," Anil Pandey, CISF chief was quoted as saying by TNM.
