The man, recently returned to India after a month-long stay in Saudi Arabia. On his return, when he was screened at the Hyderabad airport; he had no symptoms at that time. His symptoms were known on March 5, when he went to a private hospital in the district and was admitted with fever and cough. He also had other health issues like asthma and hypertension.
Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu took to social media saying, "The 76-year-old man from Kalaburagi who passed away and was a suspected COVID-19 patient has been confirmed for COVID-19. Contact tracing (of family members and others he came in contact with), isolation and other measures, as per protocol, are being carried out."
Meanwhile, a senior health official in Karnataka government, Dr Suresh Shastri stated that the lab test had confirmed that the deceased man had COVID-19.
Following this death, a fifth confirmed case was reported from the state hours later. The recent case is a 26-year-old man, who returned from Greece. He has been placed in isolation at a Bengaluru hospital.
