TCS, INFOSYS AND WIPRO SHARE BIG UPDATE ON WORK FROM HOME AMID COVID-19 VACCINE TALKS - REPORT

As India is working hard to come up with a vaccine to combat COVID-19; there are reports that it will soon be distributed across the country in a few months. 

As hopes of vaccine coming soon goes high, the majority of employees in top IT companies such as TCS, Infosys and Wipro will continue to work from home (WFH), at least till March of 2021, as per to top officials at these concerned companies. 

India's leading IT majors like TCS, Infosys, Wipro together had over 8.78 lakh employees for the quarter ended September. So a 98 percent average would mean 8.61 lakh employees are working from home.

"Nearly 99 percent of our employees in India are currently working from home. While we don’t anticipate any major change to the work from home numbers during next quarter Jan – Mar, we will review the possibility of limited office attendance post-April depending on the pandemic situation and employee safety. International travel to major work locations is open through travel bubbles notified by various governments. We have employees travelling, but on a very limited scale, and only for essential work requirements or for re-joining their families," said Richard Lobo, Executive Vice President, Head HR, Infosys.

Amid these difficult times, Infosys have also created ‘safe huddle spaces’ to help employees interact easily. Also nearly, 98 percent of Wipro's employees continue to work from home while the company may extend its work from home policy beyond January 2021. 

Coming to TCS, which has nearly 97 percent of its employees still working from home; they have also spelt out a 25*25 policy post the pandemic, where only 25 percent of its employees will work from offices by 2025.

Amid the new normal of working from home, Prime Minister Modi announced a series of measures aimed at furthering 'ease of doing business' and making India a tech hub. The Government had simplified the Other Service Provider or OSP guidelines of the Telecom Department. 

Soon after PM Modi's announcement, leaders of the IT and BPO industry in India had praised the government's move to relax guidelines to adopt permanent work from home/work from anywhere.
