There has been a paradigm shift in employee working models ever since the coronavirus outbreak commenced. Companies are increasingly turning to digital technologies and remote working setup. This has given rise to concerns related to productivity for both employers as well as employees.

TCS, Infosys, Microsoft, HCL, Wipro reveal Work From Home Strategies

As per NASSCOM’s data, India’s IT workforce constitutes 4.36 million employees and over 95% of them are working from home at present.

IT Majors such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, Wipro, Tech Mahindra and HCL Technologies believe that many of their employees will continue to work from home even after the pandemic gets over and we slip back to normalcy. They feel that employees have adapted this shift in workforce model and they have also seen an increase in productivity.

“We have realized that our employee productivity has gone up by 16-17%,” C Vijayakumar, CEO of HCL Technologies told Business Insider. Reportedly, Tech Mahindra too has stated that the productivity, creativity as well as delivery is at “all-time-high".

Infosys was recently in news for its announcement that a third of its employees will be permanently working from home.

“Considering there has been no loss of productivity with remote working, we want to ensure that return to office is not rushed, and takes into account all elements of employee safety and wellbeing as well as business deliverables,” Richard Lobo, EVP and Head HR at Infosys told the Economic Times.

Companies are also trying to achieve this smooth transition by using online collaboration tools and via other engagement techniques. Business Insider cited Birlasoft as a case in hand. Almost 99% of the company’s employees are working from home at present.

It is not just IT Majors who are adopting this model of work. Suresh Sambandam, CEO of KIssflow, a SaaS company told The Times of India that “this may become a permanent move depending on the productivity assessment in 6 months. We will make a conscious effort to hire employees who will thrive in a remote work environment.”

Microsoft, a key player in the industry and a company that provides online collaboration teams is of the view that productivity is different for everyone. “Our data shows that a more flexible workday created by remote work is allowing people to work when its best for them,” Saimik Roy, Country Head, Modern Workplace at Microsoft India told the Business Insider.

The statements passed and announcements made by representatives of the aforementioned companies are indicative of the fact that many companies might stick to ‘working from home’ in the future.
