This is out and out a Vijay movie that caters to all age groups, with same commercial quotient and sentiments. But what makes this one special is its tight screenplay and neat presentation by M.Raja, which creates all difference. This one seems to be refreshingly different from his previous commercial movies.

Story:

Vijay is a happy go lucky guy in his native village. He is a milkman who lives with his widowed mother and a beautiful sister Saranya Mohan. Our hero is liked by all for his helping tendency attitude. Hansika as a bubbly village girl falls in love with Vijay. The twist occurs when Bharathi (Genelia) a TV reporter who was earlier abused by Abhimanyu Singh-one of the most powerful don in Chennai. So to take revenge she creates a character called Velayudham. When Vijay comes to Chennai  to draw cash for his sister’s marriage he gets caught up with a problem and attacks the goons, so the villagers assumes that he is Velayudham. The rest of the plot speaks on how he takes over the bad ones and eradicates the evil guys.

Performances:

Vijay as usual carries the entire film on his shoulders. His comic sense, dance movements, not to forget this where he rips off his shirt to flaunt his physique during the climax scene is another delight to his fans. This movie will catapult him to super stardom level where he could not even have imagined that kind of reach. To say it in simple words “This movie has helped to set a political stage for him”. Saranya Mohan as Vijay’s sister is adorable and it is sad that she had less screen space to share. Vaidehi (Hansika) as a village girl gave her best shot and even tried her best at humor. Her chemistry with Ilayathalapathy is cool. Genelia for the first time has shed her bubbly-kind of act (remember- Sachein, Santhosh Subramamian) and tried a new role that aptly suits her perfectly. Santhanam deserves praise from the audience and his comedy is a treat to watch. Priyan’s camerawork is noteworthy during the climax portions. Songs are always his second pillar of support that creates huge waves for him in every movie. There is no doubt that the songs in this movie are already chartbusters.

Bottom-line:

Undoubtedly you call this one a “COMEBACK film” for Vijay as his earlier flicks did not set the cash registers ringing at the box-office. I vouch everyone that this one is an ideal super family entertainer that should not be missed.
