Actually I am writing this as a reply to many articles & comments in the internet regarding the inspiration of James Cameron's AVATAR.  Some people are saying it is "Vietnam Colony".  But everyone will agree that AVATAR is inspired by Indian thoughts, mythology, and history.

Inspired by Indian Freedom struggle?

Indian National Congress was started by Anne Besant & Hume.  They both started this mainly to educate people of India about their independence and how to fight to attain it.  We got freedom when Mountbatten was Viceroy.  James Cameron just combined the characters of Mountbatten and Mahatma Gandhi after inspired by Indian history.

Original script of AVATAR

The "Unproduced script" of AVATAR contains a scene in which the villain abducts the heroine and then the hero fights to get her released.  Heard this story anywhere?  It is our age-old "Ramayana," which is getting repeated in all shades and varieties in all Indian languages and even a little boy will tell the story.  Though the final script did not have this and the climax was changed.  Color of Pandora people is BLUE like our Ram.  They are 10 feet in height like Ram (Mythological books say that for each YUG the height of human being is getting reduced). Instead of "Garuda" he is using some other animal resembling that.  People who saw photos of Ram, Krishna in "Hare Rama Hare Krishna" can identify this easily.  Earth people on Pandora call the natives as "Blue monkeys."  Monkeys are the one that helped Rama.

The hero character of AVATAR is merging with Ram, Vibhishan, Hanuman characters.  If we compare the characteristics of the mythological characters with that of AVATAR we will come to know.  There are a lot of similarities.  We do have our own "James Cameron" Mr. Mani Ratnam, who portrayed the negative side in "Raavan" and failed to succeed at the box office where as the "real" James Cameron portrayed the positive side of "Ramayan" to strike gold at the box office.

Lastly, it is said, "Epics & scriptures are nothing but a mirror of the culture, heritage, etc. of those times."  This shows that human beings have never changed from that time.
