Zack Snyder, the director behind films like 300, is back with one of the most expected films of the year, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. This marks Zack’s third film for DC comics after Watchmen and Man of Steel.

Beyond a point the story become very predictable. You literally know what is going to happen next. One of those disadvantages in making a superhero film is that you don’t have too many options to play around with. The audience will expect you to have a suspense moment now and then and they always know that when good people are in danger, their superhero will save them. After all a comic fan pays 120 bucks to experience such overbeaten theatricals. The director has literally played it to the gallery. You often  come across some exhilarating action scenes now and then that would make your whole experience worthwhile.

So, there is not much to talk about the story. A plot that revolves around 3 major characters - an ageing superhero (Batman - Ben Affleck) with no superpowers, another who relies on his martial arts skills and fancy gadgets, then there is the much loved superhero with unmatchable supernatural abilities (Superman - Henry Cavill). Finally the mad scientist (Lex Luthor - Jesse Eisenberg) who is greedy enough to own all the powers to himself. There is also the Wonder Women character who is bound to impress you. The antihero goes for a divide and conquer strategy and infuses a clash between two superheroes. And you know how this script ends. Don’t you?

There are more than one dream sequences which could have been avoided. There is a mundane brief pause before an exposition. Having said all that, if you’re looking for adrenaline pumping moments, this film offers that time and again. The action sequences were brilliantly shot, but at places the CG looked a little awful. Considering the budget it is being made, you expect graphics work to be picture perfect.

Ben Affleck has given an excellent performance. He might not get the audience vote here, as most Batman fans might feel Christian Bale is irreplaceable. But the fact is Ben has given his best and so is Henry Cavill who has also put quite an amount of muscle mass for this film. Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor deserve a special mention. It is irresistible for a commoner to compare him with Heath Ledger with the kind of role that he has been offered. It is not the kind of character that Eisenberg used to do but he plays it quite convincingly. There were initial talks asking Tom Hanks to do this role. Oh boy! How would that have been?

Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL need to be lauded to make this 2 hour 30 minutes journey exciting. If not for their terrific music, BvS wouldn’t have been as gripping as it.

Verdict: An emblematic superhero flick with a fair share of worthwhile theatricals to go with!
