Technical credit in Tamil film goes to Harsha the editor of Tamil movies. From man reading he has used computer technology in editing which gives pleasure in his job as he does by himself without any assistance Among the 150 movies done he is much delighted with the movie Autograph and his ambition is to become the worlds renowned editor.

What is the real secret of it?

It is hard work and dedication.

How many years have you worked in this field?

I worked with editor Mr. SureshUrs for 10 years in 15 languages and now I have set up my own studio and work independently. I have done nearly 150 movies.

Are you happy with the job and what difference do you find after ten years?

Yes I am happy with the job and give me great satisfaction as I am doing the work independently. Years back the work was done manually and it required more assistance to work on it. Now technology has improved and editing is done through computer with less assistance and work is done much faster, average rating is nearly five hundred crores of production done in short notice.

Can you please tell us about the process of editing?

Oh sure. After the shooting of a film is over the negative will be given to me. The head numbers of the negative which is at the bottom will be noted in serial order in a paper and also entered in the computer. These negatives will be punched and will go for Beta tele seeing. This tele seeing will be taken in a long distance and the back touch up will be made. Nearly one lakh scenes will be shot and all the shots will be entered in the computer, each scene will be analyzed and the shots will be divided into O.K. takes and will be sorted out. Lights of the spot and sounds will be entered into the computer. The O.K. shots will be sinked and shot by shot it will be arranged.

What is this O.K. take?

With smile on his face O.K. takes is sorting out the all possible best shots of the scene that may be needed, e.g.; if it is a house scene, many scenes will be shot in different angle but the best and suited one for the scene will be chosen.

Who will sort out this O.K. takes?

The assistant Director will arrange all the O.K. shots in an orderly way, The Director and the Editor will sit together and analyze the full scenes and then go in for Rough cut.

What is this rough cut?

Rough cut is nothing but the best shot needed for the movie will be taken from the overall O.K. shots.

Is it the final stage?

No. After the rough cut it goes for dubbing as required voice is necessary for three hours. Some of the dubbing artists are brought from Bombay, while some of them are from Chennai. It goes to the dubbing place and the three hours film has to be finalized. After dubbing we have to sit together and the CD has to be played and we have to eliminate what is not required. The feeling of the film before dubbing is different from after dubbing. We assure that the film is ready now and then go back to the negative key numbers that has been punched earlier and from that the wanted shots will be cut and pasted together to have a continuous flow of the film. Thus we go in for the first round this is the process.

How will you cut and paste the negative?

It is done by a machine called G E Film Solicer.

How about the songs?

Songs are also taken and each song will be for three to four hours but songs should be only for four to five minutes. The songs will be scrutinized and what effect is required and what can be done to give it the effect will be tried out to set the scenes. By now everything will be ready to give a complete film

Editor Harsha concludes telling that he is very happy and it is really amazing when the film is released. The Assistant Director and all others work together as a team and all the process can be witnessed and rectified since it is worked on a computer .Before, it was done manually and could not achieve the satisfaction that he has gained now, and any technical improvement can be made in the field of editing that improves the quality.

He thanks the Behind woods group of associates.
