SAAHO (TELUGU) MOVIE REVIEW CLICK TO RATE THE MOVIE

Prabhas and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Saaho, directed by Sujeeth and produced by UV Creations is one of India's costliest films till date. This extravagant action film has a wafer thin plot where a crime syndicate headed by Vishwa (Arun Vijay) try to get their hands on a Black box and how Ashok/Saaho's (Prabhas) involvement affects the pursuit. The film also has Arun Vijay and Neil Nitin Mukesh playing crucial roles.

With the plotline being weak and almost waferthin, the film entirely banks on its action sequences and Visual Effects to engage and entertain us. However the action scenes look a bit overboard and unrealistic at few places and the CGI quality could have been better considering the budget involved.

The same cannot be said of Shraddha Kapoor whose range of expressions is poor. Her character arc also seems unconvincing because she is introduced as a courageous independent cop, but is dependent on someone to save her day for the rest of the film. Other than that she is present in songs just to glam up the scenes.

And most of these songs serve as speedbreakers due to the untimely placement. When the story is predictable and simple, the screenplay has to do the job. But throughout the first half, there is a lot of lag and confusion. The enormous amount of twists do not help the cause either. The film has a runtime of 2 hours 51 minutes that could have been trimmed to get a more compact, tight product.

Another issue with the story is that there is no specific conflict that is identifiable. The story goes wayward and the only thing that interests us is knowing which side Saaho belongs to. Now Saaho would have been an entirely different and better film had it been a superhero film. Because the film's universe lacks gravity and defies other laws of physics. It also has Prabhas flying around the city and saving the damsel in distress more often than once.

The lighting in Prabhas' stylish portions looks stunning and Madhie (The cinematographer) deserves praise. The background score is also top notch in the fight sequences. Had the film taken a more organic route over the force fitted action sequences, and focussed more on the story than the grandeur, the end result could have been far far better. The film has the potential to excite Prabhas fans to an extent but the length and romantic portions pull the film down.
