Review by : Kaushik L.M

Starring: Kishore, Lakshmi, Dass, Suresh, Aadhav Kannadhasan, Gayu
Direction: A C Durai
Music: C Sathya
Production: K Amirtha Gowri

The audio of ‘Ponmaalai Pozhuthu’was recently launched by Kamal Haasan and Vairamuthu. It marks the debut of the legendary poet Kannadasan’s grandson, Aadhav as the lead hero. The film also sees the debut of director AC Durai and heroine Gayathri as well. The music is by C Sathya of ‘Engeyum Eppothum’ fame. Let’s analyze the music now.

Adikkadi …
Singer(s): Hariharan, Sathyan, Priya Hemesh
Lyrics: Karthik Netha

A song with nice beats and the ever youthful voice of Hariharan, which is the biggest USP of the song. Sure to strike a right chord with the youth. The guitar and saxophone instrumentals add more pep to the song along with the foot tapping beats. Might visit the charts.

Masala Chicks
Singer: N.S. Ramya
Lyrics: Madhan Karky

‘Masala chicks’ is a new term to be added to the vocabulary on the lines of super figure, hot chick etc. The lyrics are trendy and the general treatment of the song is heavily Anglicized. The veena instrumentals are the standout element of this song which gets heavy on percussions before the 2nd stanza.

Nee Indri
Singer: Sathya
Lyrics: Madhan Karky

A short song that is driven by the simple guitar notes and the easy singing style of Sathya. Has the Harris Jeyaraj stamp written all over it. Pleasant to listen to, for sure.

Vaarkothumai Kallodu
Singer(s): Blaaze , Krishna Iyer, Sayanora Philip, Archith, Santhosh
Lyrics: Madhan Karky

This is a club song that surprisingly has only Tamil words. It has already earned some acclaim due to this fact. Other than that, the number has all the elements of other club songs like heavy beats, free style singing and a random structure. Somehow it turns out to be chaotic towards the end.

Iravugalil
Singer: Karthik
Lyrics: Thamarai

Another song with a heavy Harris Jeyaraj touch. It sounds like ‘Oh Shanti Shanti’ when the pace picks up with the ‘Iravugalil’ verse. Suddenly a rap is thrown into mix and the song again goes back to being mellow with Karthik taking over. A light experimental attempt

Verdict: After ‘Engeyum Eppothum’ , composer Sathya has shown his trendy and peppy side with this movie’s tracks. The album sounds good without being extraordinary. Few of the tracks will surely visit the popularity charts in the coming weeks.
