Maragadha Naanayam is the hunt for a precious stone that cannot be attained or possessed by anybody as it has a history attached to it. The core genre of this fantasy adventure is comedy and suspense has been used as another genre alongside the fantasy theme. Does it surprise us with it’s fantasy elements and tickle our funny bone? Read further

Maragadha Naanayam directed by ARK Saravan and produced by Dillibabu.G under the banner Axess Film Factory, stars Aadhi and Nikki Galrani in the lead roles with a lot of other cast members that include Daniel, Munishkanth Ramdoss, Anand Raj, Mime Gopi and MS Bhaskar. The casting equation is adequate and most of the performances are on dart. Aadhi and Nikki do a fair job with their roles. Nikki’s characterization has a surprise in store. Munishkanth Ramdoss is the show stealer and is extremely funny in certain scenes.

The music by Dhibu Ninan Thomas requires a special mention. Both the theme music and the songs have added as a big positive to this fantasy script. Cinematography by PV Shankar is apt and so is the edit by Prasanna GK. The technicalities are intact. If you don’t look for logic in the film and take it lightly, you are bound to enjoy Maragadha Naanayam.

As said before, the film is the hunt for a precious stone that kills anyone who lays their hand on it. After the introduction to the lead characters and their backstories, Aadhi and team go in search of this stone which could fetch them the biggest fortune. What happens after this forms the rest of the story. Though it sounds a little different from the usual commercial formula, this fantasy adventure has been given a commercial treatment.

With the main concentration being on comedy, there are a lot of dialogues which rhyme well. The laughs keep coming at regular intervals and you need to be extremely careful to get the dialogue right because the laughter at the theatre might drown the next dialogue. The director has given equal space for all his artists to perform and they all have done well. Almost every character from the leads to supporting roles and even the villains are comical in Maragadha Naanayam.

In the beginning, the director takes a little while to get to the story. But once he does that, the film travels at a uniform pace till the climax making the audience laugh out loud till the end. The film could work well if you understand that the director’s objective is to give a light-hearted film and don’t much question the logic.

MARAGATHA NAANAYAM SONGS REVIEW

Review by : Behindwoods Review Board Album Release Date : Mar 15,2017

Kottai Aanda Arasan
Singer: Arunraja Kamaraj
Lyrics: Muthamil

Kottai Aanda Arasan, powerfully rendered by Arunraja Kamaraj in his signature style is completely ruled by the synth and its sturdy beats. It is consistent in its extreme pace and the Nadhaswaram also takes center-stage throughout. Arunraja's voice provides the strength the song requires. This song carries the thrill element throughout and captivates us.

Nee Kavithaigala
Singer: Pradeep Kumar
Lyrics: GKB

Pradeep Kumar has yet again proved why he is a wonderful singer with an enchanting voice. He provides this love song it’s much needed boost with his voice. The song is a beautiful melody in which the strings and the bass guitar provide superb support. Kiran Kumar's Flute is very pleasing to the ear.

Karuppaadu
Singers: Arunraja Kamaraj, Dhibu Ninan Thomas

Lyrics: Arunraja Kamaraj

The composer, Dhibu has provided his voice along with Arunraja Kamaraj for this song which is completely taken over by the Bass guitar and the synths. An unconventional song which might or might not work for a larger set of audience.

Aasai
Singer: Sharanya Gopinath
Lyrics: Muthamil

The composition and its rendition by Sharanya are perfectly complementing the song’s tag, 'Greedy Song’. The intimidating presentation of the song is the major positive while the arrangement of strings is very well done.

Usiredukkum Kootam
Singer: Kapil
Lyrics: GKB

The introduction to this 'Gangster Song' is with the funky electric guitars and the recent common signature for gangsters, the whistle. It provides an interesting touch to this slow yet entrancing song. Well performed by Kapil, this song has the capacity to excite a good amount of listeners.

Verdict: An interesting blend of songs ensures a good debut for Dhibu Ninan Thomas!
