DOOMSDAY CINEMA: 3 MORE YEARS FOR MANKIND?

Every one of you would have heard of at least one doomsday prediction. The latest date in circulation is three years from now, 2012. Much of that can be attributed to the film that is releasing this weekend which is going to tell us about how mankind might no longer be on earth. Undoubtedly, doomsday and end of the world prophecies have interested and haunted us over the time, and there are scores of it ranging from Nostradamus to the Mayan calculations. Movies have made merry on this theme of global appeal. Here we take a look at some of the biggest and grimmest ‘doomsday’ films of our times.
Armageddon
From the Heavens: Armageddon-Deep Impact
This approach of apocalypse, due to a heavenly body, found much favor during the late 90s, possibly due to the sighting of the Hale Bopp comet and the Shoemaker Levy colliding into Jupiter. There were a couple of high profile films that depicted the possible annihilation of life due to the collision of a comet with earth. Deep Impact and Armageddon, both released within a couple of months of each other, dealt with the same problem and gave almost identical solutions (blasting the core of the comet/asteroid with a nuclear bomb). Both were highly talked about films of their times and really did make us think whether earth can come to an end this way.
