HOW TO SPOT A HARI FILM?

By Prathap

Granted we all love entertainment - the more, the merrier. And if one formula succeeds, brace yourself for others to follow suit. Director Hari's phenomenally successful Singam 2 crossed 50 days recently. He knows how to entertain and his films share similar traits.

1) His heroes are quintessentially macho men who value their family over and above everything else. For them, parental love and spousal love surpass even their penchant for mouthing fiery dialogues.

2) His movies are invariably set in southern Tamil Nadu, say Thirunelveli or Tuticorin.

3) He is very fond of the coy-village-girl image and hence his lead ladies will be draped in traditional costumes, lighting the auspicious Kuthu Vilakku - as is evidenced in movies like Saamy (Trisha) and Venghai (Tamannah) but changes into flashy costumes in dream seqeunces.

4) Whenever you see Hari's name in the title card, it's impossible to miss that the background is always that of the image of a temple

5) Mass fight scenes and loud, heinous villains are other unmistakable traits of Hari's movies. For that reason, the sickle (aruvaa) is the most preferred weapon in his films.

6) And finally, how can a Hari movie be complete without rows and rows of white Tata Sumo cars being tossed around?
