EXCLUSIVE: FIRST LISTEN REPORT OF YUVAN SHANKAR RAJA'S DHARMAUDURAI ALBUM

Vijay Sethupathi, Yuvan Shankar Raja (YSR) and Seenu Ramasamy have teamed up for Dharmadurai under Studio 9 R.K.Suresh’s production. 

Behindwoods got a unique opportunity for a pre-listen of the songs. Like the rest of YSR’s fans, we had the same level of expectation for Dharmadurai. Does the album live up to the expectations? Here’s our write up about the album where after a long gap we get to see the folk fare of YSR. The film has a total of five songs, out of which two songs are pure folk.
 

The first song we listened to and impulsively nodded our heads to was Makka Kalanguthappa. Written and sung by Mathichiyam Bala, this is the song that also features in the teaser. We feel the song has all the prowess to make one bring out his native side by rolling his tongue and swaying to and fro to the beat. Pure ‘kuthu’.
 

The next song played for us was Endha Pakkam. Sung by Chinmayi and Rahul Nanda, this unfolded as the usual duet song. We think Endha Pakkam will probably be the bridge for montage describing romance between Vijay Sethupathi and Tamannaah. The depth in Vairamuthu’s lyrics made us think so.
 

Naan Kaatrile started out like a new age trance single and immediately transitioned to a breezy and youthful number. Our guess is the song features the college days of the three that we see in the movie’s teaser. Though it started out well, the song we felt, fell into the ‘usual’.
 

Andipatti! Folk and melody worked well. One of those songs that would bring about silent thoughts.  Aishwarya Rajesh probably features in the song..? Given her appearance in the teaser, we feel so. Sung by Senthildass and Surmukhi, this is a soulful south side serenity.
 

From Makka Kalanguthappa to Andipatti, YSR has rolled out an apt album for the movie. Stay tuned for the review of the songs as soon as the album gets released.
