Home > Tamil Movies > Tamil Cinema NewsAfter a case was filed against model turned actress Meera Mithun for using a casteist slur under 7 sections including SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act recently, she was arrested by Chennai police in Kerala yesterday ( August 14). Before her arrest, she recorded a video of herself where she was seen screaming and saying that she is being harassed by male police officers and even threatening to harm herself if they try to arrest her.
It was only last week that a case was filed against her by Vanni Arasu, deputy general secretary of Viduthalai Siruthaigal Katchi with the Chennai Commissioner for passing derogatory remarks against the scheduled caste community during an interview on a Youtube channel. She had also said all members of the scheduled caste community should be chucked out from the film industry.
When she was produced before the court today, (August 15) she told reporters, "This is completely police atrocity. I have not been given food for the last 24 hours." She also alleged that the police broke her hand.
Additionally, other organisations, including Tamil Nadu Untouchability Eradication Front and Dravidar Liberation Organisation Madurai District Secretary MP Mani Amuthan had also filed a complaint with the Madurai police commissioner against Meera.
