"Films released every year in #Vettri ... Always increasing ...

2012 - 53

2013 - 92
2014 - 99
2015 - 107
2016 - 119
2017 - 121"

May the numbers keep increasing, Rakesh!

Owner of Vettri Theatres rants about the worst week in 2017 for his theatres

The film business can be tricky, even for those who have found great success and stardom in it. In an exclusive talk with us, Rakesh Gowthaman, owner of Vettri Theatres, revealed the state of affairs for films currently in theatres.

He said, "After Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru, three prominent films have come out and sadly, they haven't done very well. Kodiveeran was one of them. Sathya has got a good response, but it seems like the buzz is dying a tad too quickly. Richie started fantastically with two full shows but afterwards fell heavily.

With two screens in a prime theatre zone, we ourselves are facing this crunch. So we can only imagine the plight of theatres in weaker zones.

The coming week too does not raise too many expectations. The week after that, however, should be fun. Velaikkaran and Sakka Podu Podu Raja both will hit the screens and amp up some audience. I feel that SPPR could have released this week, maximising on the lack of competition and having a big opening."
