Theatres in Tamil Nadu will be shut down from July 3rd

We had reported on Friday that Abirami Ramanathan, President, Tamil Film Chamber of Commerce had announced about Theatre shutdown from Monday following a surprise announcement from the state government that 30% Municipal Tax will be levied on movie tickets apart for the GST that has come to practice from July 1st.

There were many rounds of meetings that happened across many associations (Theatre associations, Producer Council) concerned to the issue but looks like there isn't any good news. Abirami Ramanathan has met the press today afternoon and reconfirmed that there is no change and the proposed theatre shut down will go on as planned from tomorrow (July 3rd). It is said to be most of the area/district theatre associations has extended support to the strike.

Tamil Nadu Producers Council, who are not supporting the move by theatre owners are still trying to hold discussions to avoid the shutdown as it will affect the producers who released their films in the last 2 weeks. Stay tuned for more information on the same.
