"THERE IS NO PROFIT IN BIG FILMS" - POPULAR THEATRE OWNER'S SHOCKING STATEMENT!

In an exclusive interview with Behindwoods, G. Panneer Selvam, General Secretary of the TN Theatre Owners Association, revealed that there is no genuine profit in releasing big films. He also spoke about the ongoing controversies regarding the release of movies in OTT platforms.

He said “We have never told that movies should not release in OTT. All we are saying is if someone is making a film for a theatre release and later sells it to an OTT platform, it is unfair. In case he/she wishes to release it in the digital medium, it is only fair that we ask them to outrightly announce it beforehand.”

He also said “The number of theatres in the state has drastically come down, whereas the population is steadily increasing, Producers are the sole reason for this downfall. Even if we release big stars’ films, we don’t make any profit in it, as the cost is very high and we have additional expenses during those releases.”

Speaking about the producer’s right to release the movie in whichever way they want to, Panneer Selvam said “Yes, it is their right to release a movie in any platform they want. Similarly, it is our right to screen a movie or not in the theatres.”
