Filming for the full-length film took place in several phases in several cities. The film was shot in Pondicherry, Hyderabad, Gwalior, Archa, Maheshwar, Pollachi, Udumalai and Mysore. The film crew has officially announced that the shooting of this film has been completed recently. Post-production work on the film is currently underway.

The film stars Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Trisha, Prabhu, Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Kishore, Jayaram, Lal, Rahman. The poster for the film was released recently and was well received.

Vikram as Aditya Karikalan, Karthi as Vandiyathevan and Jayam Ravi as Raja Raja Chola. Aishwarya Rai as Nandini and Trisha as Kundavai. The OTT streaming rights to this film have been acquired by Amazon Prime. According to reports, T Series has acquired all the language audio music rights for Ponniyin Selvan, which will have A R Rahman's music.

Sreekar Prasad is overseeing the editing of the film and Thotta Tharani is working as the art director. Ravi Varman ISC does the cinematography for the film. Music is composed by AR Rahman. Co-produced by Lyca and Madras Talkies, the film is made up of two parts. The first installment of "Ponniyin Selvan-1" has been officially announced to hit the screens on September 30, 2022.
