Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s Super Deluxe has consistently maintained the usage of repetition in its promos, starting from the film’s first teaser, where a shot is seen through multiple repetitions of itself. The same applied to the trailer, where the voiceover monologue reached its conclusion through various repetitions and each time, a new information is added.

Super Deluxe Ding Dong promo review

The film’s recent promo, ‘Ding Dong’ goes the same way, but in the form of a mashup video edited in a pattern of recurrence where the characters induvidual dialogues are connected across dissimilar scenes (the promo is edited by ‘Premam’ director Alphonse Putharen). The result is a funny mix of lines like “Naanga matter pannikittom” line by Vaembu (played by Samantha) followed by the serious “Naanu Saatchi” line from the next scene.

The interiors feel more quaint and less modern in architecture. By now, the usage of old-school buildings to create a world has become a signature style of the director. Ramya Krishnan’s sequences are filled with silence and the glimpses are restricted with long shots amidst buildings and walls, thereby increasing more ambiguity surrounding the character. Almost every character gets to speak a word or two, and Shilpa’s effeminate voice is revealed for the first time in the film. Ding Dong reveals lesser facets about the film and gives more room for the viewer’s interpretation.
