Raveena Tandon wonders about women's safety in the country

Raveena Tandon, Bollywood actress is featured in the Hindi film Maatr directed by Ashtar Sayed. The film is about rape and brutal force.

 

During a promotional event of the film, the yesteryear actress went emotional and said that she worries about women’s safety in the country. Speaking to Bollywood media, the actress said that she has three daughters (two of them are adopted) and she worries about their safety constantly. She added, “And why just daughters? Are sons safe anymore? Is anyone safe any longer? We’ve politicians claiming women are responsible for provoking rapists. Can you imagine the depths of callousness that our politicians have plunged to?”

 

She also mentioned that she had met Nirbhaya’s mom and recalled the conversation. Raveena states, “Nirbhaya’s mom said all the attention that her daughter’s rape and murder got lasted for four days. From the fifth day she was on her own fighting for justice on her daughter’s behalf”.


Raveena concluded that drastic reforms must come in with regard to laws dealing with rape and that her film Maatr talks about all these.
