The 63rd National Awards were announced on 28th March and Chennai based filmmaker and entrepreneur Sruti Harihara Subramanian bagged the award for Best Documentary for her film A Far Afternoon on the renowned artist Mr.Krishen Khanna, adding joy to fellow Chennaiites and art afficionados. Behindwoods held an exclusive conversation with her which threw light on her various endeavours.

Share your joy of winning the National Award with us.

Actually the fact that I’ve won the award hasn’t still sunk in. It’s every filmmaker’s dream to win the National Award and the announcement that I won it was a pleasant surprise to me.

What instigated you to make the documentary on the renowned artist Mr. Krishen Khanna?

The project was actually an arranged marriage of sorts. It was the producer who asked me to make a documentary on Krishen sir. It was in the course of documenting his works that I fell in love with his personality.

Your previous experience.

I’ve worked as AD for many films including Vishnuvardhan's Pancha starring Pawan Kalyan which was produced by the makers of Baahubali, Arca Media. Other films such as 13B and Yaavarum Nalam also had me as the AD. Other than that, for survival, I have made many ad films.

The various activities you are involved in.

I’m basically from a business oriented family and a person who shares an interest towards eco preservation. Making use of both the ideologies, I started a shop called Goli Soda which sells eco-friendly items. I also run a trust called The Cinema Resource Centre in Alwarpet which caters to the preservation and display of Cinema related articles as old as 1930.

Behindwoods wishes the young director  hearty congratulations on her first National Award and the best for her future endeavours.
