The Kannada remake rights of Meeku Maathrame Cheptha, Vijay Deverakonda's first production in Telugu, have been sold. The romantic comedy had Tharun Bhascker in the lead role and revolved around a man who lies to his to-be wife and then his friends help him cover up the lies, which leads to humorous situations.
The original was directed by Shammeer Sultan who aced the Short Film Contest of Behindwoods Gold Medals for his feature, Naan 8.
The Kannada remake would be directed by Shivaganesh who had in the past successfully repackaged D16 and Jigarthanda. Sunil and Harish will bankroll the project under SH Creations. The cast is yet to be finalised.
A Tamil remake is also on the cards, the details of which would be finalised soon. For the Curious Georges, Meeku Maathrame Cheptha is available on Disney-Hotstar.
