Geetha Govindam collects 6 crores in the Tamil Nadu Box office

SS Rajamouli's Baahubali franchise has by far been the biggest Telugu film to make a mark in Tamil Nadu. The film's box office collections set a standard that many other films view as a herculean task.

On the other hand, Vijay Devarakonda's 2017 blockbuster Arjun Reddy took TN by storm and there grew a new star who found his audience here. His recent film Geetha Govindam released in Tamil Nadu to wide commercial acclaim and was loved by fans.

We caught up with B Shakthivelan in a conversation to know about the film's box office performance and the reason behind it. This is what he had to say:

"Geetha Govindam has collected almost 6 Crores in Tamil Nadu, and the credit for that would go to Vijay Devarakonda's fans and the success of the song Inkem Inkem Kavale. This film has been the second highest grosser in Tamil Nadu after Baahubali. Vijay Devarakonda has certainly developed a huge fan base amidst the college students.

When asked about the market for Telugu films in TN, he said, "For stars like Mahesh Babu, Jr. NTR, Ram Charan and Allu Arjun, there already exists a set of Telugu speaking audience who would watch their films. But, in the case of Geetha Govindam, we had a lot of regular Tamil film-goers also watching the film. This was a big boost and a major reason for the success."
