Sethu

Despite having been in the industry since the early '90s, it was during the flag end of the decade that luck started favouring the actor with Bala's Sethu, which initially had a slow start but soon developed into a bonafide hit. Vikram played the role of an obsessed lover. Just when his ladylove reciprocates, tragedy strikes him. The movie was remade in Hindi with Salman Khan in the lead called 'Tere Naam' and emerged a hit there as well.

Pithamagan

It was a National-award fetching performance. Vikram played an orphan, who grew up in the cemetery with little contact with the outside world and therefore, was alien to the concepts of human behaviour like socialising. He didn't even have dialogues in the film.

Kasi

Kasi saw Vikram play a blind singer who supports his family by singing songs until tragedy strikes him. Vikram's act as a visually challenged person brought him a lot of kudos.

Anniyan

Despite Chandramukhi, Multiple Personality Disorder was quite new to Tamil cinema and Shankar made good use of an interesting premise. Vikram appeared as three different versions of himself - Ambi, Remo and Anniyan and impressed the masses. The dubbed versions of the movie (Hindi and Telugu) did fine as well.

Deiva Thirumagal

Based on 'I am Sam', the movie followed a mentally challenged adult with the maturity of a five-year-old boy who suffers from intellectual disability and mental disorder, and yearns to be reunited with his young daughter. Vikram once again proved why he is one of the bests, around.
