Music Director Arrol Corelli talks about scoring for his second film Haiku

When Mysskin’s Pisaasu released, the film was talked about for many of its pluses. But one of the topmost highlights of the film is undoubtedly Arrol Corelli’s music. His background score had given a new dimension to the narrative and the young music director was showered in accolades.

Post Pisaasu, Arrol is busy with Pandiraj’s Haiku and the teaser that was released yesterday (28th May) stood out for the soothing music of the young composer.

Pisaasu was a horror genre and Haiku is a children’s film. So, how did Arrol manage the transition? “It was initially challenging as Pisaasu was a horror subject within which there was an emotional drama. But Haiku is basically a children’s subject with an emotional core. Therefore, to shift from that mode to this was a little demanding but was interesting all the same”.

Was there any help from Pandiraj? “Pandiraj sir had led me into the script. I had read the script completely, had imbibed its feel, its requirements and then started working on it. As a director, Pandiraj sir is inspiring and leading from the front. He knows well to extract the best from people and I had total freedom working in the project”.

Arrol adds on, “There are four songs in the film and three of them have been shot already. One song is sung by the kids and we have gone mostly for new singers for other numbers as we wanted to experiment with new talents”.

Haiku is produced by Suriya for his 2D Entertainment and what did he say for Arrol’s work?  “Suriya sir listened to the songs and appreciated them. He also liked my work in Pisaasu and discussed about it”.

Arrol is happy that his music in the Haiku teaser is garnering appreciation and signs off saying that he is looking forward to the audio release.
