Varalaxmi's performance moves Bala

Bala moved to tears, gifts an expensive quartz chain to heroine!

Feb 02, 2015

Tharai Thappattai (TT) directed by Bala is proceeding at a fast clip in Tanjore where the unit is busy shooting at a huge colony set which is erected near a lake. The film about the traditional art forms of Tamil Nadu features Sasikumar, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Satish Kaushik and others. Tharai Thapattai is also a landmark film as it is the 1000th one of Maestro Ilayaraja.

Varalaxmi, who is working in the film as the lady lead, had the perfectionist director Bala and the entire unit of TT totally in awe of her performance recently.

There was a sequence in TT that required Varalaxmi to be assaulted violently and subjected to a murderous attempt. This scene, a very crucial one, is expected to garner huge sympathy for the girl. The scene was completed but she broke her collar bone in the process. True professional that she is, Varu did not reveal her mishap to anyone but carried on with medical treatment. The same scene had to be shot again the next day and the girl with all her pain, did an exemplary job which got the entire unit tipping their hat in her favor.

Bala got to know of her indisposition after a while and visibly moved by her professionalism, he immediately took out his thanga spatika maalai (gold quartz chain, worth more than 1.5 lakh) and gifted to Varu. A man who is generally not known to exhibit emotions, Bala was said to be in tears and had told the team that Varu is sure to get the National Award for Tharai Thapattai.

It is also opined that the film is going to be a benchmark in terms of performances especially for Varalaxmi who has traversed the entire gamut of histrionics with utmost aplomb. The young girl is so involved with the film that she is also doubling up as an assistant director some times.

Kudos Varalaxmi and the team of TT!
