Mar 13, 2015

Federation of Tamil Sangam of North America (FeTNA) is proud to announce the Best Film award and the Best Director award for the first time in the history of FeTNA. The final decision for the Best Film and Best Director awards is made by the votes casted by several thousands of Tamils living in North America.

FeTNA is the unified body and association of all Tamil Sangams in North America. Every year FeTNA conducts an annual convention in a major city of North America during the first week of July. This year the annual convention is going to be held in the great city of San Jose, California. Normally about 2500 to 3000 Tamil people will attend the great FeTNA convention from all over North America. FeTNA serves as an “Identity for all Tamil people living in North America”. Every year we invite great literary Tamil scholars, Tamil film celebrities, Tamil community enthusiasts and philanthropists from our mother-land to honor the great convention.

The primary objective of FeTNA is to promote Tamil culture, tradition, and art using simple forms of literature, music and drama to all the Tamils living in North America and for the future generation.

This year for the first time in the history of FeTNA, it has decided to give an award for the best Tamil film and best director for the year 2014. In Tamil culture, Tamil films and Tamil literature have been part and parcel of Tamil people for several decades. Tamil films have created awareness and ingrained rationalistic thinking and ideas.

Tamil film industry has enormous effect on our society. It is exclusively because of this reason, great senior celebrities from Tamil film industry are being invited and honored for their great achievements during FeTNA convention every year. To name a few, Manorama Aachi, M.N. Rajam, Sivaji, Kamal, comedians Vivek, Santhanam and many have been part of FeTNA convention in the past.

The main purpose for awarding the Best Film and Best Director is to bring attention to all Tamil Diaspora living in North America about the best Tamil movie and best director and also to bring awareness to all the Tamil people living in Tamil Nadu about the perception of Tamil cinema in the outside world.

FeTNA preserves our ethnic identity and protects Tamil language. The main objective of these awards is to promote, motivate Tamil culture, preserve Tamil language and spread it to the Tamil community in its original form.

A special Film award committee is formed to select the best film and best director. The committee will analyze and discuss thoroughly about the movies eligible for the award. A final list will be selected by the committee and emailed to all the attendees of FeTNA convention of previous years and attendees of the current year, asking them to vote for the best film and best director before a particular date.
