After Goa, Mankatha and Biriyani, Venkat Prabhu's Masss gets a clean U certificate
As stated by Venkat Prabhu in a recent press meet, he makes a movie for pure entertainment; he wants people to enjoy the 2 and a half hours they spend in the theater and he wants all strata of the society to watch his films. With just 6 movies in his kitty, he has carved a niche for himself in the Tamil film industry.

Yet, after Chennai 28 and Saroja, all his films were certified with either A or U/A and the list includes Goa, Mankatha and Biriyani. Post a long gap, his upcoming movie Masss has been certified with a clean U.

Looking back at his films, Chennai 28 was a worthy experiment as the film gave us fun, friendship, love and lotsa entertainment with a group of guys fighting to win in a local cricket tournament. An attempt at dark comedy, Saroja literally took us on a ride. As the name suggests, Goa was majorly about glamour, women, liquor and some adult humour - reasons for the 'A' tag from the censor board. In Mankatha we saw Thala Ajith - the baddie, smoking and drinking generously, and using expletives as well. Biriyani again involved elements like drinking and smoking, giving a way for the censor board to certify it as U/A just like they did with Mankatha.

What isn't there in the U-rated Masss which was there in Goa, Mankatha and Biriyani? Also with supposed horror elements, how did the film still get the U? Or is the genre something else? Let's wait and watch out for May 29th.
