20 years of Rajini's Muthu!

The film that fetched Superstar Rajinikanth a Tamil Nadu State Award for Best Actor, the film that earned the title ‘The Dancing Maharaja’ for Rajini by the people of Japan and the film that went on to run for over a hundred days was none other than the KS Ravikumar directed Muthu.

Produced by the Kavithalaya productions, the multi-starrer action-drama was loved by the audience for the variety of entertainment it offered. Rahman’s music, Rajini’s persona, Meena’s glamour and Ravikumar’s screenplay kept the audience glued to the film.

Especially Rajini’s acting was well received both by the fans and critics. Be it the famous opening song ‘Oruvan Oruvan Mudhalali’ or the style icon’s comical timing, Muthu was one film that brought laurels to everybody associated to it. Muthu is the blockbuster movie that ran for over 182 days in Japan, collecting over 200 million Yen and also got mentioned by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during a speech he gave at Japan in the year 2006.

Though being the remake of the Malayalam film Thenmavin Kombathu, Muthu originally titled as Velan had its own version further enhancing the story initially written by Priyadharshan in Malayalam.

So, let’s celebrate the 20 years of Muthu for its special spot in our hearts.
