“Balu Mahendra never liked my films” - director Bala

Feb 20, 2014

It is well known that director Bala shares a special rapport with his mentor, the late Balu Mahendra and he does not lose any opportunity to demonstrate his love and affection towards the legendary director/cinematographer.

In a recent interview to a Tamil weekly, Bala admits that he was not in agreement with the films that Balu Mahendra made which the latter openly divulged in one film event. In a similar vein, the doyen also did not like Bala’s films but they never let their creative differences come in between their relationship.

Bala recalls about the view finder that Balu Mahendra gifted him and feels that he is highly blessed to be in possession of the same. He further adds, “Despite my repeated invites, Balu Mahendra sir never came to watch my first film and I did not see his last film (Thalaimuraigal) despite him calling me so many times to watch it. Fate sure is cruel”.

Meanwhile it is also said that Bala has approached Shihan Hussaini who is an expert in Martial Art and Sculpting to make a statue of Balu Mahendra to be kept in his office which would have his spectacles and his trademark hat.
