JILLA SWOT ANALYSIS

By Mithun

Super Good Films’ Jilla is all set to blaze the screens from January 10. The movie has been produced by R. B. Choudary, and written and directed by R. T. Neason. Jilla is a commercial entertainer set in Madurai, and packs an ensemble cast of ‘The Complete Actor’ Mohanlal, ‘Ilayathalapathy’ Vijay, Kajal Agarwal, Soori, Poornima Bhagyaraj, Mahath, and Thambi Ramaiah.

Strengths

  • The biggest strength of Jilla is its strong lead cast. Ilayathalapathy Vijay, single-handedly, has the potential to turn any box-office in his favour. This time, he also has Malayalam Superstar Mohanlal at his side, guaranteeing a definite bumper opening, not just in Tamil Nadu, but also in Kerala.

  • Right from Kumki, 2012’s biggest musical hit, every movie D Imman scored music for has stood out for its songs, its melodies in particular. The in-form music director has worked his magic, yet again, for Jilla and the songs are already chartbusters.

  • Soori had a very eventful year in 2013. His antics in Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga, Varuthapadatha Vaalibar Sangam and Desingu Raja largely contributed to the movies’ successes. And, with Jilla, he might continue his good run in 2014, as well.

  • The Pongal holidays last for 10 long days, and such mass entertainers are the perfect time pass spots to visit with family. Given that Jilla has both Vijay and Mohanlal, there is a high probability that the movie would hit the right spots and do good business.

Weaknesses

  • In recent times, big budgeted clichéd mass entertainers haven’t done well. The new breed of directors, with their out of the box ideas and innovative scripts are the hot sellers. However, if Jilla has the right commercial elements and a fast pace, it definitely could be an exception.

  • The trailer of Jilla was released just two days before its release. Also, the three teasers of the movie ran for less than 15 seconds. Therefore, there is very little chance for the non-social-media public to know what to expect from the movie. From the trailers, it seems that Jilla would be a commercial extravaganza – So, for people, who expect otherwise, because of the presence of Mohanlal and post-Kaavalan Vijay, they may get disappointed.

Opportunities

  • Jilla’s ‘Kandaangi Kandaangi’, sung by Vijay and Shreya Ghoshal, is the current hot performing song in the Social Media and Radio Airplays. It could be one of the top songs of this year. If so, it will mark Vijay’s hat-trick, after ‘Google Google’ from Thuppakki and ‘Vanganna Vanakkanganna’ from Thalaivaa, one among the raging hit songs of 2012 and 2013, respectively.

  • Kajal Aggarwal was riding high with big projects, Naan Mahaan Alla, Maattrraan, and Thuppakki, releasing back-to-back. However, she could not continue that dream run in 2013.  Jilla presents a right opportunity for her to get back her position.

  • Neason’s first film Muruga, starring Ashok, Shruti Sharma, Samiksha and Vadivelu, did not fare well. So, Jilla, in every sense, is a great opportunity for him to establish himself as a potential commercial director in Tamil film industry.

Threats

  • Thala Ajith’s Veeram is also releasing on January 10 and is the biggest threat to Jilla in Tamil Nadu. The two movies would be scrutinized, with each other, for flaws.

  • Two big Telugu movies, Ram Charan Teja’s Yevadu and Mahesh Babu’s 1 Nenokkadine, are also taking the same date. They are expected to get a very good release in the overseas markets and also in the neighbouring states.

Good Luck to Vijay, Neason and team for the success of Jilla.
