Ajith's Vaali and now Rajini's Sivaji 3D are truly special

By Kaushik

Today, as we know is Superstar Rajinikanth’s birthday. As a birthday gift to his crores of fans, his 2007 blockbuster Sivaji is being re-released in 3D, for their viewing pleasure. The 3D conversion process was painstaking and those who have seen rushes of the movie are full of praise for the detailed and intricate work done on the 3D.

AVM and Prasad EFX are the main reasons for this path breaking re-release and going by the advance booking at ticket counters across the various city multiplexes, the public is really eager to see their favorite Superstar for the first time on 3D. The tickets till the end of this weekend are getting sold at a healthy rate and some of the other much expected new releases like Neethane En Ponvasantham and Kumki will see some stiff competition from our good old Superstar in this rebooted avatar.

But, the real reason to rejoice for Rajini’s fans would be the fact that their Thalaivar’s movie is releasing on his birthday. Though it is just a technically rejuvenated version of an earlier movie, still the response and enthusiasm shown by fans is almost akin to a new release. Therefore in addition to celebrating their star’s birthday by putting up posters, cutouts and hoardings, playing his songs loudly on the speaker, dedicating his songs on music channels and doing some social service in their community, Rajini’s fans can also go to the nearby theater to see their hero’s movie and enjoy to their heart’s fill.

In recent times, this might be the first time that a mass hero’s movie is releasing on his birthday. Ajith’s recent movies like Mankatha and Billa 2 were all rumored to have a May 1 release to coincide with his birthday but their final release dates were nowhere near May 1. The only Ajith movies to release on May 1 till now are Jana in 2004 and Vaali in 1999.

Vijay’s movies haven’t released on his birthday June 22nd, even once. Other big heroes like Kamal, Vikram and Suriya too haven’t had special birthday releases in the recent past. That makes Sivaji 3D all the more special. Rajini has always been unique and a notch above the other heroes and the events surrounding his birthday just prove the same.

Karthi’s Alex Pandian is having its audio launch today and the reason for choosing this date is all too obvious. The original Alex Pandian is being honored by the latest Alex Pandian.

Raghava Lawrence and Vijay Antony teamed up to release a tribute song as a dedication to ‘The Boss’ on his birthday. Rajini’s dear wife has also come out with a music video to honor her husband on his birthday.

Now, the modest Rajini fan on the street also has an opportunity to celebrate Thalaivar’s birthday in a way which is befitting the man – by going to the nearby theater, paying the ticket amount and seeing his new 3D avatar amid never-ending whistles and hoots.
