Review by : Harish V

Starring: Riteish Deshmukh, Genelia
Direction: Mandeep Kumar
Music: Sachin-Jigar
Production: Kumar S. Taurani, Siddharth Roy Kapur

Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya is Riteish and Genelia’s third film together and the first time they will be seen together on screen after their wedding earlier this month. Will their real life chemistry kick start their successful career as a couple?

Viren (Riteish Deshmukh), an auto driver works hard to save up money with the dreams of starting his own travel agency one day. His dreams take a beating when one morning he finds his job, his auto and his savings gone. Furious at being cheated by his own employer, he lands up at his house in a drunken stupor to disrupt his daughter Mini’s (Genelia Deshmukh) engagement. Mini, an adventurous tom-boy, sees an opportunity to escape from this marriage of her dad’s convenience and manipulates the innocent Viren to kidnap her. As they escape and figure out a way to get back Viren’s money and Mini’s freedom, love blossoms between the unlikely couple.

An interesting story for sure but the execution could have been better. For a film that sets out as a romantic comedy,  the romance is well-played out but the  comedy was sparse.  However, the humour improves as the film progresses and credit goes to some of the veteran side actors. It has an interesting twist in the second half which is definitely the better half. The film is well paced and does not drag in spite of weak direction and performances.

Real life chemistry sparkles once in a while on screen. While Riteish and Genelia make a good pair, nothing about their chemistry stand out. Riteish delivers just about an average performance as Viren. His style seems put on. The choreography in many places does no good to his appeal. There are few scenes, especially the last one where he is comfortable and in those he does deliver well. Genelia’s acting is a disappointment. She is extremely pretty but her boisterousness borders on kiddish rather than cute. She handles seriousness better than comedy. Tinu Anand as Mini’s father shines.

Atif Aslam in his soulful voice has rendered a couple of good melodies composed by directors Sachin and Jigar. The item number in the film as usual is uncalled for and the track does not make an impact either.

Good sets, colourful costumes, judicious and crisp editing and some laudable cinematography especially in the scenic locales of Himachal and Haryana add to the an otherwise average film.

Verdict: Just about average..
