Mannaru features Appukutty of Azhagarsamiyin Kudirai fame. Directed by Jai Shankar, the movie has Thambi Ramiah and Mallika in lead roles in addition to Appu Kutty. Jai Shankar started his career as an assistant to Thambi Ramiah, K. Rajeswar and Kasturi Raja.

About the movie, Jaishankar says that the film is the quest of the protagonist to accomplish something in his life as he feels he should be respected and appreciated by everyone. The film also stars Swathi, Vaishali, Pandiarajan, Premnath, Risha, Gopal, Rama, Jayasooriakanth, dance master Sivashankar and Venkal Rao.

Udayan composes music for the movie the audio of which was released recently. Thambi Ramiah has written two songs for the movie. Appukutty revealed that he was a bit hesitant to accept the movie as it is a hero-oriented subject. He also said that he underwent rehearsals for a month before the shoots began. Mannaru is releasing this weekend.
