Those of you who attended Gumkha presented
by Swaram on April 10th would have had an
entertaining evening. This was the first of
the 3 events organized by Galaata Premier
League to raise funds forUdavum Karangal.
Galaata on May 7th promises
undiluted fun and rip roaring entertainment
for the family. Galaata comprises of the following
line-up of programs and presenters;
Oru oorula oru ragam, a story
woven with a unique blend of Tamil songs will
be presented by the golden voices of Bay Area.
Meera is a classically trained,
free lance singer performing in and out of
state. She has her own audio blog and about
10-12 original scores to her credit. The movie
Green Card Fever has a song by her and she
was recently discovered and complimented by
Shankar Mahadevan in a Bay Area based radio
show. Venkatesh, the Galaata
idol of 2009, has performed on the TV shows
RaagamSangeetham, Sapthaswarangal, Ragamalika,Aboorvaragangal,
Rajageetham, Lalitha vin pattukupattu. Kavitha
inherits her love and talent for music from
her grandmother who is a composer and singer
and debuted as a playback singer in the movie
Najupuram. Ishwarya is a
trained exponent of carnatic music. She has
won several accolades at her school and college
level cultural shows and was the winner of
the musical talent show Sapthaswarangal. She
aspires to be a RJ/VJ.Praveen
is a talented classical singer training under
Shri D.Seshachary, having already studied
under Smt. D.K.Pattamal, Shri. Vairamangalam
and S. Lakshminarayanan. He has performed
frequently on stage in India and has made
it to the top in various popular talent search-reality

Her talent is second only to her enthusiasm
for opportunities where she can showcase her
singing abilities. Smriti is an active proponent
of the music scene in the Bay Area involved
across a range of genres and languages of
music
Stand-up comedy by Thiru,
Saranya and Vaishnav, the 3 comedians of Bay
Area will have you in splits holding your
sides in laughter. Thiru’s interests
range from Madurai-Balu, Mahendra-Sachin-Parotta-Vairamuthu-Flute-Kobe,
to Bryant-Michael Jackson-Biryani-Illayaraja-iPhone-Jensi…(pant,
pant!) Saranya loves hanging
out with friends and having deep conversations
that lead nowhere. She has her feet on the
ground and her eyes on thestars. Vaishnav
is a fun-loving, coffee-drinking, crossword-solving,
Rahmaniacal sports buff, always on the lookout
for new adventures and challenges, and to
whom Chennai is still Madras!
Pallavi, Bay Area’s
premier light music group is into its 15th
year of successful performances. The group’spassion
and versatility has carried them triumphantly
through the years. They are delighted to be
associated with Udavum Karangal for the 7thsuccessful
year. You are going to be enthralled by their
performance this year as well.
Sanhiti is a Bay Area dance
group founded in 2004 with the goal of promoting
South Indian dance culture, whilst working
with non-profit organizations to help the
differently blessed. Since its inception,
Sanhiti has partnered with several NGOs includingUdavum
Karangal, to raise more than $150,000,through
their annual productions.
Project Pulse will set your
feet tapping with itsgroovy moves to music
from Kollywood to Bollywood. They teach various
styles of dance to all levels of dancers of
all age groups, allowing everyone to discover
and explore the dancer within.
Saahas comprises of a vibrant
group of award winning, brilliant performers,
who have joined the cause of Udavum Karangal.
They present an interesting variety of styles
from folk, contemporary, jazz and retro to
a unique medley of catchy numbers..
Visweta presents “Dance Mirchi”
on May 14th. Visweta Academy of Arts
is a one of a kind dance group that encourages
and motivates everyone who has a passion for
dance. Visweta’s debut performance “Srishti”
was a runaway success. Dance Mirchi this year
will have you swaying, clapping and tapping.
All proceeds from Dance Mirchi will benefitUdavum
Karangal.

As most of you know, Udavum Karangal is a
non-profit organization focused on helping
under privileged children in India..The volunteers
of Galaata Premier League are raising funds
to educate 500 children for one year. The
cost of sponsoring achild’s education
is $125.. You can help bysponsoring a child,
buying tickets for the programs ($25 /20)
or volunteering your time or money. No amount
is small!. This is going to be a wholesome
way to bring joy (Galaata) into the life of
the children at Udavum Karangal while having
a gala time.
