Despite the BJP had promised high priority to job creation and opportunities for entrepreneurship in the manifesto of 2014 general elections, India's unemployment rate has reportedly registered an increase since the BJP government began its term in May 2014. Reportedly, the unemployment rate in 2015-16 was 5% of the labour force, up from 4.9% in 2013-14.
