West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday was honoured by the United Nations with the highest public service award for her girl empowerment initiative Kanyashree Prakalpa. Reportedly, the initiative was ranked first among 552 such social schemes for Reaching the Poorest and Most Vulnerable through Inclusive Services and Participation. Notably, the initiative has benefitted around 40 lakh school and college-going girls.
