UNESCO conducted a study in the temples of TamilNadu between May and June to know how the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department ( HR & CE) maintain and conserve the heritage monuments. UNESCO submitted a report stating that HR and CE does not have the quality and capacity to carry out work and no proper system is being followed for documenting and assessing. UNESCO has informed the High Court on the maintenance of the heritage as the Madras HC had asked UNESCO to be a part of the restoration project in TamilNadu.
