A petition has been filed in Madras High Court reportedly seeking a response from Election Commission and the Ministry of law and justice on conducting the by elections in R.K. Nagar constituency. The electorate seat remains vacant from December 5 after Jayalalitha's death. As per Representation of People's Act, by elections should be conducted within six months if any legislator die. The election Commission canceled the bypolls on April 9 because of the irregularities and no further steps were taken.
