Actor Rajinikanth's speech at Thuglak function has turned out to be controversial and created a lot of debates in the mainstream circle.
Rajini quoted a 1971 incident saying Periyar degraded Hindu Gods Ram and Sita in a rally conducted in Salem.
Today, Rajinikanth met the press in front of his poes garden residence and flashed an 'Outlook' article published in 2017 which describes the same incident Rajini quoted in his speech.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister OPS replied to Rajinikanth's statement saying, "One should read about Periyar properly before commenting on him".
"'Thanthai' Periyar's reforms should be placed high and praised forever. I could able to achieve the status where I am today only because of Periyar'," OPS added.
