Tamil Nadu Teacher's organization and Government Employees organization announced that there would be a statewide strike on August 22 demanding a hike and revision in salary on par with the seventh pay commission. Reportedly they also demand changes in pay structure with special allowance and consolidated pay. On August 5, over one lakh protesters converged on Wallajah road as a part of a pre-planned action.
