The coupling of a goods train that connected the engine with the wagons got disconnected near Salem on Thursday prompting possible train accident. However, the possible accident was averted after officials alerted the loco pilot of Salem-Mettur passenger train which was on the track at the same time. The officials advised the passenger train loco pilot to stop the train at Mecheri railway station. The goods train continued its journey 40 minutes later after a new coupling replaced the old one. The passenger train was delayed by more than an hour and reached Mettur at 8pm.
