According to a report, over 75 percent of death row convicts in India are socially and economically backward. The Centre for Death Penalty of the Delhi Law University states that over 80 percent of the death row inmates are physically and mentally tortured in prisons. The study also revealed that most of them are the sole breadwinners of their families.
