The Chennai anti-corruption branch of the CBI has booked a Kumaresan, Ranipet-based lawyer, on charges of helping people get tax refunds fraudulently. Officials of the agency reportedly said the accused caused a loss of Rs 80 crore to the Income Tax department between 2015 and 2017. According to the complaint, Kumaresan helped 1,055 BSNL employees file I-T returns by fraudulent means leading to assessees getting back all amounts deducted as TDS from their salary by the employer.
