Rebuking the Centre for violating the Supreme Court order by making the Aadhaar card mandatory for many central schemes, the top court asked Centre, “How can you make Aadhaar card mandatory when we have passed an order to make it optional?” When Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi said the Centre took the decision after finding that PAN cards were being used to divert funds to shell companies, the court retorted, “Is making Aadhaar compulsory by force the only way to tackle fraud?”
