Germany’s parliamentary defence commissioner, Hans-Peter Bartels, has renewed calls for a joint EU army, the union of the 28-nation bloc’s militaries to into a single armed force. His call comes amid concerns about the reliability of the NATO alliance and disorganisation and fragmentation of national defence structures. While Germany and France have supported greater Europe defence integration, Britain is repeatedly opposed to it.
