'Emerald' lingam stolen from Thiruporur temple

According to reports, a 400-year-old lingam (an abstract representation of the Hindu deity, Shiva) was reportedly stolen from the Suryambeeswarar temple in Thiruporur, Chennai on Friday night. Several reports suggest that the stolen idol was made of emerald and is believed to have a market value of over Rs 2 crores. However, the police are yet to confirm the value of the stolen idol.
