According to reports, CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota faced massive backlash for directing an alleged racist comment at an American-Indian Ananya Vinay, the 2017 national spell bee champion. Camerota, as part of the show ‘New Day’ interviewed 12-year-old Ananya and towards the end of the interview, Camerota asked the sixth-grader to spell ‘covfefe.’ However, after Ananya spelled the word, Camerota said, "It's a nonsense word. So, we're not sure that its root is actually in Sanskrit, which is what you're probably, uh, used to using, so, I don't know. Anyway.”
